Hello! This is my first post, so if I'm doing anything wrong, please tell me and I will happily change it.
So, 3 years ago at the E3 2017, a western localization of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was announced. But after that, they have been silent all this time even when the game was released 5 months ago in Japan. Some weeks ago they published it in China and in Korea and, as far as I'm concerned, no new information has been released. Do you know anything? It's a big game with a lot of text, that's for sure, but at least they could confirm if they are still working on that or something.

I'd say we probably know as much as you do. I haven't heard a thing but have been wondering the same.

The wait and the lack of communication is even more annoying that the game has a stellar reputation among japanese users. The story is apparently top notch.
Segatlus are focused on releasing Sakura Wars right now, but let's hope Yakuza Like A Dragon (another stellar game) and 13 Sentinels are not too far after in the localization process.

And they also got Persona 5 Scramble, which must be their top priority release game for now.

Yakuza and Sakura games took priority over 13 Sentinels.

Maybe the game has a shitload of dialogue in it to translate. Either way, I hope we get news soon. Been hearing great things about it.

Hopefully coming soon. I don't know how the current pandemic is influencing its release. Had glowing reviews for the Japanese release last December.

Atlus west has to work on everything Sega Japan wants to bring over including stuff like Yakuza and Sakura wars. They localize all the shit that comes over. They have a lot on their plate rn.

They cancel the localization because of the shitty reaction people have towards that game in the west, with stupid comments like:
"Why the fucc it's a VN?"
"Why they took so long developing a fricking VN"
"Where's the gameplay REEEEE???!!1!1!1!"
(as if making an adventure games with 13 characters, tons if dialogue and hand drawn are easy lol)

On serious note, i agree with others. They still have Yakuza 7, Sakura Wars, and Persona 5 scramble. There's also a chance that they are starting to localize day and date with SMTV, since they have mention it several times that they want it but still no sign. Well, at least that's what I'm hoping lol

The delay is unfortunate. It's also unfortunate that there's a high likelihood that the game won't have an English dub.

They've announced it for 2020, so hopefully we'll see it before too long

How well did it sell in Japan? And how did it do compared to previous Vanillaware games?

68k for the final version, around 5k for the prologue/paid demo. Only retail sales; it's in line with any other Vanillaware game, except for Dragon's Crown, which was a minor hit with over 300k units. Aegis Rim had also the benefit of a very high price, so they surely made their money back.

They haven't said anything about 2020 in the West.

At first, it performed poorly. But incredibly positive word of mouth and continuous shipments made it reach 100k copies shipped in Japan as of January, which both Atlus and Vanillaware were satisfied with. Notably lower than Odin Sphere or Dragon's Crown; I guess at around Muramasa levels?

I was going off Wikipedia, which lists 2020 as the WW planned release date. However on further inspection the source links to this article:
Vanillaware's 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Combines Slice-of-Life Drama With Apocalyptic Time Travel
The long-awaited follow-up to Dragon's Crown goes in a radically different direction.
primagames.com
Which ends with the line:
Atlus has indicated their intention to publish the game outside Japan in 2020, and while it will probably be a harder sell than their more action-oriented titles (the robot combat here appears to be more tactical than visceral in nature), it should appeal to fans of gorgeous graphics and trend-defying game design.
So I don't know where they got that info lmao. Yeah it looks like that's the only source though which is suspect.

Well, they said 2020 apparently but now who knows with COVID19. I mentioned it in my topic as well alongside other Atlus products but I think this is the one we're most likely to get aside from Scramble this year but then again, who knows if they decide that getting an English dub is important enough to wait on for, or not.
I'm also wondering about Yakuza 7 as well. I'm guessing SEGA originally planned for some of these games that are out in Japan (13 Sentinels, Yakuza 7, P5: Scramble) to get localization gameplay reveals/trailers w/ release dates at E3 but it's up in the air now.

You know, I know Atlus USA/Sega are releasing games with multiple translation, but I think this should/will be English only. This game will be too niche, even more than Sakura Wars.

Pretty weird to see someone write "this should be English only" lol
EU markets like France are very fond of JP games and by doing so, most won't buy your game.

Hopefully we'll hear something soon, they were likely prioritizing Persona 5 Royal and Sakura Wars.
